Our Family group has had a couple in the group for a long time, the wife is a Catholic but the husband was not.
John sadly died from cancer last year. Barbara can’t drive so we helped her to visit John in hospital and the hospice.
He didn’t want to be a hypocrite having a Mass but said he would like his funeral in the church, with Barbara’s cousin Fr Barry Scannell taking the service.
It was a lovely funeral , with Fr Barry making his personal connection and memories of John, his family and our Family group members who were pall bearers on the day.
John was a good friend of all of us in our group, and his connection with the church family, but not the church itself, showed that it was a really lovely way to honour him and Barbara at his passing.
