Auckland/Hamilton Parish Coordinators Weekend - Waihi Beach, 7-8 August 2004

With Passionist Family Groups the activities that take place are secondary to the underlying love and care which is central to this Movement. People in their hour of need – sickness, bereavement etc have the love and support of those they know. The fundamental truth of our Christian Faith, LOVE, is lived out.

A PFG Story
Within our group there is a couple, both on their 2nd marriage, having a problem with husband’s gambling. Whenever the wife flew away on business the husband compensated for her absence with his gambling.
Great concern by the FG when it became known the wife would need to go to USA for her work. Fear of what husband would do was discussed privately within the FG. Another FG couple (the husbands regularly play golf together) invited him to come and stay with them while wife was away.

Without PFGs and the continual support from them this couple would have undoubtedly parted from each other, their jobs and the church.

Comments from the weekend

  • Shot in the arm
  • Great to hear Brian’s PFG presentation
  • Lots of shared issues and shared strategies to deal with them
  • We need to continually open up PFGs to include others.
  • The structure of the family has changed dramatically and we have to adapt to the reality out there
  • Importance of getting into small groups, and to tell our story with new people
  • I’m so grateful for PFGs…I’ve met people I never would have known
  • One group held a ‘skite’ evening and learned a lot about each other. Each person told of something they had done which they were proud of
