Palmerston North Diocese Formation 2009
Following on from successful part day programmes held last year two part days were held over the weekend of 21/22 March. The first in Palmerston North on the Saturday afternoon/evening and the second an afternoon programme in Hastings on the Sunday starting just before mid day and continuing until around 5.
The programme this year was based on the topic of St Paul, the Pauline communities, and each Parish’s Family Group story. Fr Kevin Hennessy facilitated the days, encouraging and enlightening us about St Paul and the early church.

A map showing the areas St Paul travelled, very worn out sandals, a cross, bible, candles and symbols representing some of the communities were the focus for the prayer table. Those attending were given reading material on the Pauline communities in preparation for the day.
The session started with readings, music and prayer and a brief look into what St Paul was all about. This gave a great background as to the vigour in which St Paul went about building communities in the early church and supporting them through letters and visits, always encouraging strongly the way of the cross and Christ Jesus.
Groups were formed representing the Pauline communities, and encouraged to share information they had read or found out about their community. They enthusiastically established what kind of community they represented and the challenges faced in the early church. As these communities sent representatives out to visit the other communities there was a real sense of ownership in sharing their story.
Following on each Parish met and talked about their PFG story…how it all started and who was involved. What gifts gave their Parish it’s distinct flavour. What challenges they have faced and how they strive to continue to invite others.
From this each Parish shared their story with other Parish’s.
There was a sense we have much to learn from each other…….
Relationships are complex………what fulfils the PFG aims and goals?….
Each of us has a story to tell……and gifts yet to be revealed………
Continue to keep encouraging each other….
That to be a family for all we must be opened and not prejudge others (as shown in the example of Susan Boyle)
In conclusion a great day, time passed very quickly as the sessions were very proactive for all. |
